An armed man that attempted to rob a young woman had the tables turned on him when the would-be victim refused to hand-over her money.

Huang Lin (a pseudonym), 25, was using an ATM in Ningde, Fujian at around 4:00 am when a masked robber armed with a 70 centimeter machete burst in and tried to rob her.

With the blade held to her throat, Huang let out a scream and refused to give the robber her cash. Afraid that the yelling would attract attention, the robber attempted to muffle her mouth with his other hand.

Huang reached for the machete handle with both hands and used her feet to kick the robber. Within 16 seconds, she was able to disarm him. He then panicked and ran away.

But Huang wasn’t done yet. She chased the robber while yelling at the top of her lungs, getting the attention of two city residents. The three of them were able to catch up with the robber and hold him until police arrived.

The suspect has been identified as 23 year-old Cai, a man described as having quit his job with an entertainment venue after getting addicted to online games. When he eventually ran out of money, he turned to crime to pay his bills.

“I never expected the woman to be so fierce, (so I) gave up,” he reportedly told police. Here is a news report of the incident with the surveillance footage:
